Kids Kottage Foundation is a 24/7 haven for any child from birth to ten years of age who cannot safely remain at home during times of crisis.

As the only provider of dedicated emergency shelter and care for young children in Edmonton and area, we provide crisis prevention and early intervention services during moments of instability. Kids Kottage Foundation’s trauma-informed, home-like setting allows children to rest, play, and be cared for by a team with expertise in crisis intervention until they return home or transition to a permanent arrangement.

Notable facts and Kids Kottage organization stats:

Kids Kottage has been in operation since 1995.

Our current Kids Kottage care facility has capacity for 12 beds dedicated to overnight safe shelter care for children ages 0-10 years old.

This crisis nursery model is the only one of its kind in existence in Edmonton and area.

In 2024, Kids Kottage was able to shelter 594 children and provide resources, support and referrals to hundreds of families in our community.

We serve the most young and vulnerable - 43% of the children we shelter are 0-3 years old

With only 12 beds, our board and leadership are actively working on a roadmap for growth.

WHY IS KIDS KOTTAGE NEEDED?

Crisis happens. For a child living in the midst of homelessness, poverty, abuse, caregiver
mental or physical struggles and more, the impact can be staggering. Often too young to
understand and entirely unable to help themselves, these little ones are left completely
exposed.

Kids Kottage acts as a safety net, stepping in on behalf of our community to prevent
trauma and provide a safe, temporary home where vulnerable children are shielded, deeply cared for, and protected.

At Kids Kottage Foundation, we choose to be champions for children caught in circumstances they did not create.

We provide more than just a bed; we offer a
place of belonging where a child’s voice is the most important one in the room.

We care for safety and wellbeing of infants and children, providing a nurturing space for them to remain protected while families and agencies work to stabilize the crisis. We work alongside caregivers and community partners to identify the best path forward for every child we care for.
