About us:
Kids Kottage Foundation, established in 1995, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children when families encounter a crisis and need help to cope with and overcome their challenges.
The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care, typically 1-3 days period, for up to 12 children under the age of 11 when their parents are faced with emergencies such as a health crisis, unsafe housing or homelessness, family violence, lack of utilities, legal crisis, or overwhelming parental stress and have no other alternate care for their children.
Our mission is to ensure children are safe and receive the care they deserve when their families are in a crisis and provide caregivers with the appropriate resources, they need to support them to mitigate the crisis and build resiliency.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Volunteer Coordinator and Staff Scheduler to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring that our programs run smoothly and efficiently by managing volunteer activities and Crisis Nursery staff schedules. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator/Staff Scheduler is responsible for the direct and daily coordination of all volunteer activities including recruitment, orientation, scheduling of volunteers, daily volunteer oversight, training, guidance and support, and staff scheduling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers
- Maintain volunteer files and documents appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate volunteer activities and events
- Develop and maintain volunteer and staff schedules utilizing scheduling software and tools
- Work closely with Program Manager to ensure staffing needs
- Provide support and guidance to volunteers
- Ensure that staff are prepared for the arrival of volunteer groups and that all necessary resources/materials are ready and available and that all affected staff understand details and expectations.
- Record volunteer hours and statistics.
- Participate in Community Resource Events when needed.
- Assist Development Director when requested with fundraising events.
- Participate in Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Develop and implement recognition programs to appreciate volunteers’ contributions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources/volunteer management or a related field.
- Experience in volunteer coordination and staff scheduling.
- Has a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Pre-Employment Requirements (upon commencement):
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search valid within the last 6 months.
- Intervention Record Check through Children’s Services valid within the last 6 months.
- Proof of qualifications (degrees/diplomas/certificates etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Believes in the core values of KKF and is driven by the mission of the organization.
- Uses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Has the ability to work well under stressful conditions, negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities while managing a wide variety of tasks.
- Displays strong management skills including planning, coordination, supervision and conflict resolution
- Has the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, and resourcefulness.
- Demonstrates proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications.
- Knowledge of Connecteam is an asset.
Work Environment:
- Administration Office & Crisis Nursery, children ages 0-10
- Kids Kottage is located at 13308 101 Street Edmonton, Alberta T5E 4GE, and our Administration Office is located at 10107 134 Avenue NW Edmonton, Alberta T5E 1J2
- This position consists of working 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm. May need to work some evenings and weekends for events etc.
Benefits & Salary Range:
- Comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package.
- Salary Range of $40,000 – $60,000 per year.
