About us:

Kids Kottage Foundation, established in 1995, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children when families encounter a crisis and need help to cope with and overcome their challenges.

The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care, typically 1-3 days period, for up to 12 children under the age of 11 when their parents are faced with emergencies such as a health crisis, unsafe housing or homelessness, family violence, lack of utilities, legal crisis, or overwhelming parental stress and have no other alternate care for their children.

Our mission is to ensure children are safe and receive the care they deserve when their families are in a crisis and provide caregivers with the appropriate resources, they need to support them to mitigate the crisis and build resiliency.

The Opportunity:

Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting a Team Lead.  Reporting to the Program Manager, a Team Lead coordinates the childcare team to work together to ensure developmental enrichment and a safe environment for all infants and children. The Team Lead ensures that members of the childcare team are supported and work well together toward the common goal of meeting each child’s needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accepts and supports the Kottage philosophy, and adheres to all policies and procedures, health safety and behavior management expectations while interacting with the children and their caregiving systems.
  • Assigns the care of individual children to specific childcare workers and ensures workers use strength based, developmentally appropriate strategies with the children.
  • Develops and implements safe, creative, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the infants and children.
  • Coaches, actively supports and mentors new staff regarding shift assignments, shift responsibilities, documentation, and evidence-based childcare, and crisis support practices, including home visits on occasion.
  • Uses understanding of cross-cultural differences in managing members of their team.
  • Values all staff, volunteers and clients, treats them with respect and maintains their confidentiality.
  • Ensures the safety, overall cleanliness and order of the children’s environment. Reports action taken and restored safety guidelines to Program Manager.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement, including case consults.
  • Manages conflict resolution for his/her direct reports and assists with conflict resolution of front-line staff.
  • Manages decision-making with appropriate and timely notification given to the Program Manager/ Executive Director.
  • Participates in program development, data collection, and evaluation as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Early Childhood Development, Education, Social Work, Nursing or related fields.
  • Has been in a supervisor or Team Lead position for at least 3 years.
  • Program development and implementation experience.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Has completed Trauma Informed Care, Indigenous Awareness and Brain Story training.
  • Will be a self-starter who applies energy, vision and flexibility to his/her work.
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of all relevant legislation.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Pre-Employment Requirements (upon commencement):

  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search valid within the last 6 months.
  • Intervention Record Check through Children’s Services valid within the last 6 months.
  • Proof of qualifications (degrees/diplomas/certificates etc.).

  • Gives clear instructions.
  • Uses excellent verbal reporting skill in English.
  • Excellent English documentation skills.
  • Manages time well.
  • Builds strong rapport with team members from diverse cultures.
  • Delegates and follows through with tasks required.
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
  • Has the ability to lift and carry infants and children and complete household cleaning.
  • Knowledge and ability to meet the developmental needs of infants and children up to 10 years old.

Work Environment:

  • Crisis Nursery, 13308 101 Street Edmonton, T5E 4G3
  • Part-Time, Evening Shifts (3:45pm-12:00am), Thursdays-Sundays, 32 hours a week.
  • Ability to share on-call duties with other Team Lead & Program Manager.

Benefits & Salary Range:

  • Comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package.
  • Salary Range of $45,000 – $57,000 per year.
